Keep your loved one protected wearing this beautiful thistle demi parure.
Commonly called ‘Flower of the Sun’ or ‘Herb of Witches’
The French believed that witches could not look into the sun, but the strong thistle always stood proudly to face the light. Because of this, lure proclaims that the flower is the icon for the sun sent down to protect others from harm and evil.
Coro has many Thistle pieces who are very detailed. This gorgeous fifties set has the main forms of the thistle simplified to only the most essential lines. A very modern design. The designer must have been inspired by the art world’s exploration of the essential lines in objects. A time were the Dutch painter Mondriaan was exploring, in the 30s and 40s, the same matter to bring objects and the observed back to only essential lines and colour fields. One of his quotes according to the Mondrian foundation was: ‘Every true artist has been inspired more by the beauty of lines and colour and the relationships between them than by the concrete subject of the picture’.
The set is in mint condition. No wear to the gold plating nor to the enamel surfaces.
